In the Oz books, Dorothy finds out Oz is lying to her by running into his arms and expecting to be hugged. This will not be the first time a character learns this -- a special relationship actually allows for a different sort of honesty. But is there a way to reveal the truth to someone without pushing them away?
In my opinion, Oz is a charlatan. He’s a con man. He’s a trickster. At the heart of it, he’s a liar. He’s the Wizard of Oz, and he’s still a manipulator who just wants to make sure you believe him over your instincts and logic. He wants to fool you, and then he wants you to forget that he fooled you. He’s doing that with the entire Oz story, and he’s doing that with the modern audience. He’s not the shining beacon of goodness we all wish he was. 827ec27edc
