Bogar’s main area of interest was the study of occult science and learning how to protect mankind from the perils of life and illness. He also taught astrology to disciples. In the book Sugunabhivatam, it is said that once his family was in danger of being killed by enemy. Bogar performed Kriya and the only thing that saved his family was the fact that he was a Siddha.
Bogar is one of the 18 siddhar. Before choosing the name Science of Astrology, he was called 'Siddhar' (Learner). Bogar is one of the few who understood Muruga to be Shiva. He was a great devotee of this God. By his Tantric sorcery, he was able to create a statue of Muruga. The legends say that when Muruga was on his way to defeat Kamsa he stopped at Kudalai. There, he met Vishnu and asked Vishnu for magic wand so that he could defeat his enemy Kamsa. He asked Vishnu to bless a suitable place for the worship of Muruga. Vishnu took Muruga out of the place where he was worshiping. And Vishnu after giving Muruga the magic wand said, “Worship only Muruga for he is the only one who can destroy demons.” 7211a4ac4a
